Emerge Alabama

Emerge Alabama

Emerge Alabama, founded in 2017, is the premier campaign-training program for Democratic women in the state. The Emerge program inspires women to run, and hones their skills to win. Our goal is clear: to increase the number of Democratic women in all levels of public office. Emerge Alabama is an affiliate of Emerge America., a national organization operating in 23 states. Emerge Alabama is proud to announce that we have named founding Executive Director, Stacie Propst.

Emerge Alabama's role is to:

  • Recruit women to run for office at all levels of government
  • Train them to run effective campaigns and win races
  • Provide a powerful network to support women running for office

We are happy to announce that we are now accepting applications for the inaugural Class of 2018!
Are you thinking about running for office?

Applications will be open until November 28, 2017.
Do you know a Democratic woman who you would like to see in public office?

If so, please TELL her that our application is open and URGE her APPLY to be a part of Emerge Alabama's 2018 class!

While women comprise more than 50% of the electorate, they still hold just 29% of elected offices in this country. While women make up 51.46% of Alabama's population, they only make up 14.3% of seats in the 140 person state legislature. However, of the 20 women in Alabama's state legislature, 13 are Democrats. In addition, as of 2016, there are no women of color in statewide executive elective office. According to the Institute of Women's Policy Research, if current trends continue, Alabama will not have equal pay for women until the year 2088. That's why it is so important to elect Democratic women to all levels of government in Alabama!

If you aren’t interested in running for public office but agree that more women should, please consider donating to support our efforts to recruit, train, and provide a network for women seeking public office.

The Emerge model is an intensive 70-hour, cohort-based training program, designed explicitly to address the extra challenges that women face in the political arena by offering early-stage recruitment; top-notch, comprehensive training; and an ongoing network of support. We use a rigorous, highly selective application and screening process to ensure that our participants are great future candidates. Our recruitment effort focuses on all levels of diversity, so that we can add depth and breadth to the Democratic candidate pool.

The track record of Emerge America’s program model speaks for itself. Founded only 10 years ago and operating in 22 states, the Emerge affiliates have trained over 2,000 Democratic women nationwide, creating a powerful pipeline of Democratic women running in politically important districts.  In 2016, over 330 Emerge alumnae ran for office across the country and 70% of those who appeared on the November ballot won their elections.

Emerge Alabama is still fundraising to support our upcoming training.
Please consider donating today!
